Deepak Simkhada

Deepak Simkhada

Dental Hygienist/Therapist | CEO & Founder, Perio With Deepak

Deepak qualified from the University of Dundee (2007) with a BSc in Oral Health and later completed MSc in Advanced Periodontal Practice from the University of Essex (2018). He has a special interest in managing advance periodontal problems in primary care settings through non- surgical periodontal treatments. 

Treating and managing periodontal patients in general dental practices has its own unique challenges. Deepak understands this from his own experience working from dental hospital to corporate and independent (both national health service and private) practices. He incorporates this into his teaching methods and explains how to manage patients better and yield successful outcome using non-surgical approach. Deepak’s lectures are very comprehensive, hands on, evidence-based and he ensures he creates open-style, fun and interactive learning environment for his delegates. He has been described as “motivational and engaging speaker”. 

He frequently writes for dental journals and lectures at dental events on these topics nationally and internationally. Annually he organises volunteering trip to Nepal to promote oral and general health and to provide pain relief as well as general dental treatments.

Currently Deepak practices as dental hygienist therapist two days per week in general dental practice and runs courses on various aspects of periodontology within the UK (www.periowithdeepak.com) . From last 2 years, all of his courses have been sold out. He is also studying for Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from University of Greenwich and enjoys travelling.

Hatem Algraffee qualified as a dentist from the Royal London Hospital. He then worked in an oral and maxillo-facial surgery department, followed by several positions for various health authorities and general practice.

In 20104 he completed four years full time specialist training in Periodontology at Guys London Hospital.

His previous positions were as a Specialist Clinical Teacher at Guys Hospital, as a Senior Dental Officer for Hammersmith and Fulham Trust, visiting lecturer for LonDec and as a Postgraduate Dental Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He has lectured at many postgraduate centres, at webinars and study clubs. Hatem now dedicates his time to Periodontics in private practice and lecturing for PerioAcademy

Hatem was our lead speaker on “Perio-Medico Litigation, How to Avoid It?’ and “New Periodontal Classification 2017” courses.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Clinical, Health and Research) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) following previous posts of Executive Dean of Faculty of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, Director of Dental Research and Knowledge Transfer from October 2009, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Jan 2010 and Dean of School of Medicine and Dentistry in July 2013. As well as Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dentistry, StJohn is also responsible for the MB BS Programme which has been recruiting for September 2015.

Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Blackpool Victoria Hospitals trust and an Honorary Consultant at University of Morecambe Bay Hospitals Foundation Trust, subsequent to previous 2 year post of Associate Director of Undergraduate Dental Studies and Year 3 Lead at Peninsula Dental School.

Specialising in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has secured posts of Senior Lecturer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Cardiff School of Dentistry prior to Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Queen Marys, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2003. Appointed in 2005 as Consultant in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery to North Glamorgan NHS Trust to include NHS duties at Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles Hospitals and an Honorary Professorship at University of Cardiff School of Dentistry.

Currently the Robert Bradlaw advisor in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Editor in Chief of the Faculty Dental Journal (FDJ). Previously President of the Northwest Branch of the British Dental Association but remains Chairman of the Fylde Section

StJohn holds numerous examiner-ships at home and abroad advising on the establishment of many dental undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has research interests in the role of oral bacteria in systemic disease and the biology of stem cells derived from dental pulp.

Periodontist/Implant Dentist (BDS MSc MClinDent FDS RCSEd MRD RCSEng)

Amit graduated in Dentistry from the University of Liverpool in 1997. Following a training post in Restorative Dentistry at the Liverpool Dental School, he gained significant experience in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery through 3 prestigious hospital posts. He obtained his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2000.

Alongside his private practice, he also works as Associate Specialist in Periodontics and Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham Dental School. His special interests are dental implants, regenerative and aesthetic periodontics.

Amit obtained his Masters in Clinical Periodontology and Clinical Dental Dentistry at Guy’s, Kings and St Thomas’ Dental Institute. Amit then obtained his Membership in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and became a registered Specialist in Periodontics. He works with several different implant systems including Biohorizons and Astra Dental Implant systems. He is also experienced in advanced surgical techniques for the treatment of Periodontal (gum) disease including sinus lift surgery, bone augmentation, the use of growth factor for bone regeneration and cosmetic root coverage surgery.

Amit is dedicated to providing specialist dentistry at the highest level and to training other dental professionals and has been voted inside the top 50 most influential dentists in the UK. Amit is very well known lecturer nationally and internationally.

Mohsin Ali Mughal

Mohsin trained as a Dental Hygienist at the Military School of Dental Hygiene, Aldershot and was awarded Diploma in Dental Hygiene from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2012. Mohsin has served for 14 years in the Royal Army Dental Corps. He experienced various roles in the Army such as Dental Management, Dental Hygienist, member of the Dental Software testing team, Diversity Army Recruitment, Community Engagement and other Military projects.

He has undertaken the additional qualification of a BSc (Hons) degree in Dental Studies, which has deepened his knowledge in the treatment of patients with periodontal disease. Mohsin took opportunity to take his skill and knowledge at highest level in his peer group for the treatment of periodontal disease. He is currently studying for MSc in Advanced Periodontal Practice at the University of Essex. He also involved in teaching and mentoring adaptation dental hygiene student at the University of Essex. Mohsin is the winner of the Clinical Case Poster Presentation at the British Society of Periodontology Conference 2019.

Bev is a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead for the BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Central Lancashire.

Having worked in dentistry for over 25 years Bev is passionate about furthering the development of Dental Care Professionals. Bev has worked in general practice, maxillo-facial and orthodontic settings, community and in public health and has been teaching for over 15 years.

Bev graduated with a Combined Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy (with Distinction) from Liverpool University. She has since achieved a BSc (Hons) in Dental Studies (1st class) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. She has completed her PG Cert in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently studying for an MSc in Advanced Restorative and Periodontal Practice with UCLan.

Alongside her teaching commitments, Bev is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Bev is our solo tutor on Prescribing Radiographs for Dental Hygienist Therapist as well as Clinical Examination for DHT course.

Maggie Jackson

Dental Hygienist (MPhil EDH Dip DHE FAETC)

Maggie has received awards for dental hygiene services and periodontal research. After many years of experience in treating periodontal diseases without surgery, Maggie Jackson decided to start her own practice. Maggie is a hygienist of exceptional reputation and experience.

In November 2003 she was awarded a Master of Philosophy in Periodontology. She is the first dental hygienist to hold an MPhil qualification in periodontology a post graduate degree from Leeds University. She has a number of publications and has used her personal research findings to help design a new interdental brush.

She lectures throughout the UK and served many years nationally and locally on the hygienist (BSDHT) committees. She regularly received referrals for more complex, non- surgical periodontal (gum) treatments from other dental practices. She has persevered despite a right side stroke in 2019 to mentor and advise colleagues and Continues to develop awareness of her VisioPerio brushes. We hope she will be even more available as her improvement continues.

Maggie used to be a co-speaker on hand instrumentation section of 3 day “Masterclass On Periodontal Disease” as well as one day “Simplifying Hand Instrumentation” workshops. We are looking forward to welcoming back Maggie in some teaching roles again.

Dr Nath

Dr R N Nath is a practising Endodontist in the Republic of Ireland with over 20 years’ experience as a Dentist and 16 years as an Endodontist enjoying most of his time under the operating microscope!

He’s got his Post Graduate degree from the University of Leeds in 1999 and holds Fellowships of both the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ireland. He has been using various local anaesthetic techniques and advanced intraosseous local anaesthetic administration for the last 15 years, and the intraosseous technique predominantly manages his endo practice. He has a wealth of knowledge, presents and teaches all around the world on topics of Endodontics, Intraosseous anaesthesia, Digital Dentistry, Dental Photography, Intra Oral Scanning, In house 3D printing and Cone Beam CT scanning.

Dr Nath takes clinical photographs and videos routinely in his clinical practice as well as teaches Clinical Dental Photography in his two-day workshops. Landscape photography is his passion outside dentistry, and he has got several awards and recognitions to add to his repertoire- for landscape and travel photography, most recently from the Tourist Boards of Slovenia and Ireland.

Dental Hygienist and Therapist Cat Edney qualified from King’s College Dental Hospital in 2008 with a distinction in the dual qualification of Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy. She has over ten years of experience working in specialist private practice. She has a passion for Soft skills training and multidisciplinary team working in the Dental Setting. With a focus on providing personalised care for patients, she takes a holistic approach to dental disease prevention. Cat is also a Fit-Testing Team lead working with PHE and in private settings, providing training in RPE use and maintenance. She also writes for multiple dental publications in addition to supporting newly qualified dental Hygienists in mentorship programmes.

Cat is our clinical instructor on Back to Practice & Masterclass In Periodontal Disease and also lectures on Back To Practice weekly online classes as well as residential week.

Robiha Nazir

Robiha qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 2004 from the University of Newcastle. She has since then worked in the private sector homing in on her skillset. Robiha has spent time learning how to build great patient rapport, enhance her communication skills to bring about behaviour change and reform mindsets.

Through her career, she has been put forward for awards and ended up being shortlisted as ‘Hygienist of the Year 2012’, ‘Best Hygienist 2014’ and for ‘Best Treatment of Nervous Patients 2014’. She was also nominated for ‘Best Hygienist 2015’ and ‘Best Patient Care 2015’.

Robiha has had the opportunity to work with some of the best brands on the market, her role has involved market research, educating the public, developing and marketing products such as Wrigleys, Colgate, Listerine, Oral B and Regenerate.

With a plethora of experience and knowledge, she is better placed to offer mentoring and coaching to complement her clinical days. More recently she has been trained and taken on the role of fit testing to ensure the best environment, suitable and compatible RPE is being provided for our Dental Professionals.

Niloji Manokaran

Niloji qualified from the University of Portsmouth in 2014, where I achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. Currently Niloji works in mixed practices where she manages 70% of periodontal cases in-house. Niloji has worked with many types of patients with various diseases as well as physically and mentally challenged patients.

Niloji’s passion lies in educating and motivating patients on the importance of good oral hygiene and treating periodontal disease. After I graduated, Niloji worked with Deepak in a same practice together developing and implementing periodontal protocol that would suit general dental practice in the UK. This helped Niloji strengthened her knowledge and understanding of the periodontal disease and it’s management in general dental practice, with a better focus on diagnosis, treatment planning, educating patients on oral hygiene and treatment of patients with periodontal disease.

Niloji also participated in Oral care for Developing Countries (Nepal) Project in 2019, run at Takutot (Gorkha, Nepal) to promote oral health, and to provide restorative and preventative dentistry.

Manjit Sandhu

Manjit has worked in the dental profession for over 24 years and has gained various qualifications throughout her time working in the profession. Manjit qualified with Honours as a Dental Hygienist from University College Cork (Rep. of Ireland) in 2004 and was awarded the Castellini Award for the highest clinical skillset in her year. She has also been selected as a finalist for the “Dental Awards 2020” for the category ‘Dental Hygienist of the Year’.

She has taken a particular interest in solving periodontal problems through non-surgical periodontal therapy and completed an MSc in Advanced Periodontal Practice from The University of Essex in 2018. She is passionate about her profession and is continuously building on her knowledge and skillset.

In recent years, Manjit has undergone advanced training in treating periodontal disease through the use of Laser technology. She has attended and completed various training courses in Laser Periodontal Therapy taught by the UK’s leading Dental Laser therapy tutors. Her compassionate approach to patient care and motivating team members reflect her beliefs and passion for the profession.

Lizzie Dyer

Lizzie is a registered nurse living in Surrey with 20 years’ experience working in Accident and Emergency departments across the south of England and Wales. She has a BSc in Emergency Care and has been an advanced life support provider and trauma nurse instructor for more than 16 years. She has worked as a prison nurse and a school nurse as well as working in the private sector covering sports and charity events. Since April 2020 Lizzie has been working in critical care (ICU and HDU) nursing patients with COVID-19.

Alongside her emergency nursing, Lizzie has developed a business outside the NHS and has a long-term contract with the Jockey Club providing pre-hospital trauma care to injured jockeys at Kempton Park, Sandown Park, Epsom Downs and Newbury racecourses. She also works in the TV and film industry as a medical advisor and unit nurse for a variety of productions.

Since 2016 Lizzie has run a successful training company providing mandatory ILS training to healthcare professionals, including dentists, and first aid courses to a huge range of people and industries. She has a very dynamic style and her experience, plus the recent work in critical care, means training reflects current practices. Students can practice their skills with real equipment and become familiar with standard pre-hospital procedures.

All ILS courses meet the GDC required development outcomes C for registration and are fully endorsed by TQUK. They are also fully compliant with The Resuscitation Council UK. She is regulated and quality assured by ProTrainings UK.
