Supply and administration of medicines by DHT under exemptions & refresh your knowledge on these medicines

We are committed to delivering high-quality online dental courses that meet the highest standards of education and professional development. Our quality assurance process is designed to ensure that you receive an enriching learning experience that is both relevant and effective. Here’s an overview of the steps we have taken to design, compose and deliver our Supply and administration of medicines by DHT under exemptions & refresh your knowledge on these medicines (Exemption Course). Certification follows the guidelines set out by the GDC *1.

Target audience:

This course is aimed at qualified and practising dental hygienists and dental therapists. To enrol on this course, you need to meet the following requirements (as per NHS England published document):

  • be registered with the GDC as a dental hygienist and/or dental therapist
  • under a PSD or PGD, be competent in the use of the medicines specified in the HMR 2012 exemptions, as would be expected of a dental therapist or dental hygienist working at full scope of practice
  • be practicing in an environment where there is an identified need for them to regularly use exemptions to supply and administer the specific medicines in legislation
  • be able to demonstrate that medicines and clinical governance arrangements are in place to support safe and effective use of exemptions
  • be able to demonstrate support from an employer or, if self-employed, to demonstrate an identified need for the use of exemptions and that all appropriate governance arrangements are in place
  • be able to demonstrate how they reflect on their own performance and take responsibility for their own CPD
  • in England and Wales, provide a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate; in Northern Ireland, an Access NI check within the last 3 years; in Scotland, be a current member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme

Curriculum:

NHS England  strongly recommends that all current dental hygienists and therapists wishing to work to exemptions undertake further training that complies with the curriculum developed by NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy and The British Association of Dental Therapists.  Our course follows the curriculum mentioned above  and meets the recommended learning outcomes. You can access the curriculum and learning outcomes here NHS England » Supply and administration of medicines by dental hygienists and dental therapists  ( under section Annex A) *2

Course design and content writing:

Our courses are developed and delivered by experienced dental professionals who are leaders in their respective fields. We carefully select our instructors based on their clinical expertise, teaching experience, and contribution to the dental community. Each course is designed with clearly defined learning objectives to create a structured and coherent learning pathway that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

This particular course is designed with the collaboration between Deepak Simkhada BSc MSc (practicing dental therapist, clinical educator, Fellow- Higher Education Academy, Fellow – College of General Dentistry), Dr. Beth Pasfield BDS (clinician, clinical educator teaching student dental hygienists and Clinical Fellow for the Office of the Regional Chief Dental Officers- East of England), and Miss Heenal Singh MPharm, MSc (Community pharmacist, researcher and health economist). Draft content was refined and sections were modified to meet the learning outcomes as stipulated by NHS England in their publication on 11 Sept 2024 mentioned above.

This guarantees that the content you receive is aligned with regulatory requirements as well as being factually correct and clinically relevant.

Accreditation and Compliance

The GDC does not quality assure CPD but issues guidance on what we (course provider) should follow to meet those standards. They do not have a list of “approved CPD providers”, nor is there a requirement for accreditation of certain courses from some educational institutions or professional bodies/associations.  We follow the guidance issued by the GDC and our enhanced CPD courses meet the requirements set out by them.

Interactive Learning Experience

To enhance your learning experience, we integrate a variety of interactive elements such as video demonstrations, case studies, and quizzes. There will be dedicated questions and answer sessions at the end of each section to iron out any doubts you may have.  You will have opportunities for active participation and/or discussion during the course.  These tools help reinforce learning and enable you to apply concepts in a virtual setting.

Ongoing Assessment

Throughout this course, we use various online quizzes, assignments, and self-assessment tools to gauge your understanding and progress.  Live Q&A sessions are great way to foster engagement.

Post Course Online Assessment

Post course assessment consists of 40 multiple choice question-answers and you will need to score above 80% to pass the test. Delegates who fail to score 80% will be offered multiple opportunities to complete the test.  If you are struggling, please let us know and we can explore how we can help you further.

Continuous Quality Improvement / Post Course Feedback

Your feedback is invaluable to us. We actively seek input from our learners through surveys and evaluations at the end of each course. This anonymous feedback helps us identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance future courses.
